Encrypt Text
Lock text behind a password with AES-256, entirely on your device.
Locking uses AES-256 with your password. Keep the password safe — without it the text cannot be recovered by anyone, including us.
Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
About the Encrypt Text
The Freemium.Tools text encrypter locks any text behind a password using AES-256-GCM inside your browser, producing a code that only the same password can unlock.
Sometimes you need to send a password, an API key or a private note through a channel you do not trust. Encrypting the text first means the message is useless to anyone who intercepts it, and the recipient unlocks it here with the password you shared separately.
The key is stretched from your password with PBKDF2 and 250,000 iterations, and a fresh random salt and nonce are used every time, so encrypting the same text twice never yields the same code.
How to use it
- 1Paste your text. Anything you want to keep private — a note, a key, a message.
- 2Choose a password. Long and memorable. Share it with the recipient by a different route.
- 3Send the locked code. The recipient pastes it here with the password to read the original text.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I forget the password?
The text cannot be recovered — not by you and not by us. There is no key escrow and no reset, which is exactly what makes the encryption trustworthy.
Which encryption is used?
AES-256-GCM, with the key derived from your password using PBKDF2-SHA256 at 250,000 iterations and a random 16-byte salt.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Encryption and decryption use the Web Crypto API inside your browser tab, so neither the text nor the password ever leaves your device.
Can I encrypt files?
This tool handles text. For files, share them through an end-to-end encrypted service instead.
Is the locked code safe to email?
Yes, as long as the password travels by a different channel — a phone call or a messaging app, not the same email.
