About the Hash Generator

The Freemium.Tools hash generator produces MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 checksums for any text or file, calculated locally in your browser.

A hash is a fixed-length fingerprint of some data. The same input always produces the same hash, and changing a single character changes the result completely, which makes hashes ideal for verifying that a download or a file copy arrived intact.

Paste a checksum you were given and the tool tells you immediately whether it matches any of the algorithms, so you do not have to compare long hex strings by eye.

How to use it

  1. 1Add your input. Type text or drop a file — large files are read straight from disk.
  2. 2Read the checksums. All five algorithms are calculated at once.
  3. 3Verify. Paste a known checksum to confirm the file matches.

Frequently asked questions

Is MD5 still safe to use?

Only for checking accidental corruption. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken against deliberate tampering, so use SHA-256 or stronger for anything security related.

Can a hash be reversed?

No. Hashing is one-way. Short or common inputs can be guessed from lookup tables, which is why passwords need a salted, slow algorithm rather than a plain hash.

Why do two files with the same name have different hashes?

Because the contents differ, even by one byte. That is exactly what a checksum is designed to detect.

Is there a file size limit?

The practical limit is your device memory, since the file is read locally. Very large files are hashed in your browser without any upload.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Hashing happens entirely on your device.
