About the Image to Base64

The Freemium.Tools image to Base64 converter turns a PNG, JPG, SVG, GIF or WebP into a data URI you can paste straight into HTML, CSS, JSON or an email template.

A Base64 data URI embeds the image inside the code itself, so the browser needs no second request to fetch it. For small icons, logos and email assets that removes a round trip and any risk of a broken image path.

Paste-ready output is offered in four shapes: a raw data URI, an HTML img tag, a CSS background rule, or the Base64 payload alone for APIs and JSON fixtures.

How to use it

  1. 1Drop the image. Any common web image format works; conversion happens on your device.
  2. 2Pick the output shape. Data URI, HTML tag, CSS background, or raw Base64 for APIs.
  3. 3Copy it into your code. Copy to the clipboard or download the string as a text file.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the Base64 bigger than my image?

Base64 encodes three bytes as four characters, so the text is roughly 33% larger than the original file. That is why it suits small assets, not photographs.

When should I use a data URI?

For icons, logos and tiny decorative images under about 5 KB, and for HTML emails where linked images are often blocked by default.

When should I avoid it?

For large photos and anything reused across pages — a normal image file can be cached by the browser, while an embedded data URI is re-downloaded with every page.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The file is read and encoded in your browser, so unreleased artwork and client assets stay on your machine.
