About the QR Code Reader

The Freemium.Tools QR code reader decodes a QR code from a photo, screenshot or saved image and shows exactly what it contains before you visit it — all inside your browser.

Scanning an unknown QR code with a phone camera opens the link immediately, which is precisely how quishing scams work. Reading the code first shows you the destination before anything happens.

Upload a photo or screenshot and the code is decoded on your device. The result is labelled by kind — a website link, Wi-Fi network, contact card, payment request or plain text — and faded or low-contrast images get a second pass at higher contrast.

How to use it

  1. 1Upload the image. A photo, screenshot or saved picture containing the QR code.
  2. 2Read the content. The decoded text appears with a label describing what kind of code it is.
  3. 3Decide what to do. Copy the content, or open the link once you have checked the address.

Frequently asked questions

Can I read a QR code from a screenshot?

Yes, that is the most common use. Any image containing the whole code works — photo, screenshot or scan.

Why does it say no QR code was found?

Usually the code is blurred, cropped, at a steep angle or too small in the frame. Retake it square-on with the whole code and its white border visible.

Is it safe to check a QR code this way?

Safer than scanning with a camera app, because nothing is opened automatically — you see the destination and choose whether to visit it.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Decoding runs in your browser, so a photo of a payment or boarding-pass code never leaves your device.
