Word Counter
Count words, characters, sentences and reading time as you type.
Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
About the Word Counter
The Freemium.Tools word counter shows live word, character, sentence and paragraph counts plus estimated reading time for any text, without sending it anywhere.
Word and character limits govern essays, meta descriptions, ad copy, social posts and application forms. Seeing the count update as you type avoids a painful trim at the end.
Alongside the counts you get reading and speaking time estimates and the words you lean on most, which is a fast way to spot repetition.
How to use it
- 1Paste your text. Type or paste anything into the box.
- 2Read the counts. Words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs and lines update instantly.
- 3Check timing and repetition. Use the reading and speaking estimates for scripts, and the frequent-words list to cut repetition.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to read 1,000 words?
About four and a half minutes at the average adult silent reading speed of 225 words per minute. Read aloud it takes roughly seven and a half minutes.
How many words is a 500-character limit?
Roughly 80-90 English words, since the average word plus a space runs about 5.7 characters. Use the character count directly for hard limits.
Does it count characters with spaces?
Both counts are shown. Social platforms usually count characters including spaces; some academic limits exclude them.
Is my text stored or sent anywhere?
No. Counting happens in your browser as you type and nothing is saved or transmitted.
