Text to Speech

Read any text aloud using the voices installed on your own device.

The voices listed are the ones installed on this device, so the choice differs between phones, Macs and Windows PCs.

Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

0 words · roughly 0m 0s of speech

Reading aloud uses the voices built into your device, so nothing leaves this page.

Download as an audio file

Your device voices can't be saved, so we create the file with a studio voice instead. Your text is sent to our voice service only when you press this button. Up to 3,000 characters.

About the Text to Speech

The Freemium.Tools text to speech reader speaks any text aloud using the voices already installed on your device, with adjustable speed and pitch and no audio ever sent to a server.

Hearing your own writing read back is the fastest way to catch clumsy sentences, and listening to a long article is often easier than reading it on a small screen.

The reader uses your operating system's built-in speech engine, so it starts instantly, costs nothing, and works with the languages and voices your device already supports.

How to use it

  1. 1Paste your text. A script, an article, an email draft or a paragraph you want to proof.
  2. 2Choose a voice and speed. Pick from the voices installed on this device and set the pace.
  3. 3Press read aloud. Pause, resume or stop at any point while you follow along.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download the audio as an MP3?

No. Your device's speech engine plays audio directly to the speakers and does not expose a file. To capture it, use a screen or audio recorder.

Why do I see different voices than someone else?

The voices come from your operating system, so a Mac, a Windows PC and an Android phone each offer a different set. Install more in your system's language settings.

Which languages are supported?

Every language your device has a voice for. Choosing a voice also sets the reading language, which is what makes pronunciation correct.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The speech is generated locally by your browser and operating system, so confidential drafts stay on your device.
