About the PDF Page Numbers

The Freemium.Tools page number tool adds numbering to every page of a PDF, with control over position, style and starting number, without uploading the document.

Contracts, reports and submissions are much easier to reference when every page is numbered, and many institutions require it.

Choose where the number sits, how it reads, whether the cover page is skipped and which number to start from. The original text stays selectable and the number is added as real text, not an image.

How to use it

  1. 1Set the style. Choose the position, the wording such as 'Page 1 of 12', the size and the margin.
  2. 2Handle the cover. Skip the first page or set a different starting number if your document has front matter.
  3. 3Add your PDF. Drop in the file; numbering is applied on your device.
  4. 4Download. Save the numbered PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Can I skip the cover page?

Yes. Choose 'Skip the first page' and numbering starts on page two, with the total adjusted to match.

Can numbering start from a number other than 1?

Yes. Set any starting number, which is useful when a document continues from an earlier volume.

Will this flatten or rasterise my PDF?

No. Numbers are drawn as real text into the existing page, so your document's text stays selectable and searchable.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

No. Remove the password in your PDF reader first, then run the file through the tool.
